AS Media Studies - Evaluation
Camera shots
​I learnt different ways of using the camera and different camera angles like low angls
and zooming in to the face and going between low and middle angles I also learnt how
to smoothley track and pan with a camera. This made it better for the opening of Obsession since by that point i had acquired more knowledge about how to use a camera and could come up with more ideas and film more since i understood the different ways of using it.
Jump Cuts
Through watching Shanaé and Reginald i learnt how to make jump cuts which we used
in our piece quite a lot which is a typical convention of a thriller. It helped me understand more about editing and how to do continuity editing much better and build the tension in a video.
Seperating audio from video
Through watching our editor Shanae i used how to seperate the audio from thhe video
which aloud us to continue the diegetic sounds easily and making it flow through the
scene. Also how to record someone voice and put it back into the video if it wasnt clear in the first place and blend the diagetic sound in over it so it sounded more realistic.
Focusing camera
​
I learnt how to focus the camera without wating for it to automatically focus and with this when
it was un focused with the track to Johns bathroom i suggested that it would be a good thing and
that it would add to the tension and mystery of the thriller. The preliminary task was hard since i did not know how to focus the camera at first but then as time went on i learnt how to focus the camera and film with the right focus.
How to put effect on the video
​how to use the final cut technology and add effects to the piece also how to do the transitions
between the clips so it all runs smoothley. This was shown to me during the process as Shanae showed me after i understood how it was done i started giving ideas about how to transition and what effects to put.
